Welcome to The Scope
It's hard to believe that I'm writing the very first post that will live here on The Scope. This has been a true labor of love and I'm incredibly excited and even a little nervous to get this site off the ground. More than anything, I want you to know that this site was built with the sole purpose of helping people; people who want to learn more about self-employment and connect with likeminded folks who share a similar passion for taking on the hard work and reward that can come from an independent career.
At The Scope we're all about providing resources and community to freelancers.
For this post, I wanted to introduce myself and share more on what you can expect from The Scope. My name is Audrey Adair and I've been a full-time professional freelancer for almost five years. I started freelancing at the beginning of 2014 to be more present during a time of need with my family. Once things settled there, I found that I was pretty good at balancing my current client load and was ready to take on more. I branched out to my network and business gradually started to grow and eventually flourish to what it is today.
There have been ups and downs. I've lost clients, chased down paychecks and have even made the difficult decision of letting opportunities pass so I could prepare for the uncertainty of what might be ahead. But there's no greater reward than coming out from under it all and knowing you did it all yourself.
Freelancing is scary, uncertain and frankly - it's hard. It's not for everyone but it can be for everyone who wants to do it. I decided to start The Scope when about a hundred different people asked me the same exact question, "How can I do what you do?" It's unbelievable to me the number of people who are interested in freelancing and the great part is, there's more demand than ever from businesses looking to hire freelance talent (a topic that will be an active discussion throughout the site). Make sure to visit our Freelance Facts page to learn more about the current and expected growth of the self-employed market.
Let's have a look around, shall we?
